Nowhere in Philly can you experience the flavors, textures and colors found in Michael Schulson’s latest Center City eatery. For diners who dig lusty flavors and relaxed surroundings, Sampan impresses with the perfect balance of ambiance, service, and fairly priced, inventive dishes with an Asian spin. (Try the Philly Cheese Steak, seriously.) Pull up a chair at the central wood slab bar, enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the open air kitchen and – most importantly – take in the flavors of Chef Schulson’s creations. Combining masterful attention to detail with only the freshest local ingredients and bold Asian flavors, each of Sampan’s culinary creations leave your mouth watering for more.
Sampan’s outdoor “graffiti” bar is Center City’s newest watering hole. Philadelphia-area graffiti artists layered the walls and counters with custom street artwork. A plasma screen is suspended overhead so you can catch the Phillies or the Eagles game, and a clear plastic overhang covering the outdoor area means there’ll be no rain delays out here.
